Reviews from Letterboxd

  1. CinemaGhouls★★☆☆☆
“A bland sequel that lacks the impact of its predecessor. Jackie Chan is still finding his groove here, and it shows. The fights are decent, but the pacing is sluggish.”

  2. karstenrunquist★★★☆☆
“Not peak Chan, but fascinating to see his early dramatic performance. You can see the promise of his later charm even in this grim, nationalistic revenge tale.”

  3. AlexKittle★★★☆☆
“An earnest attempt to carry on the Bruce Lee legacy. Some scenes are overlong, but the training montage and final fight are worth the wait.”

  4. thomascaldwell★★½☆☆
“Feels like two different movies struggling for control—one’s a historical drama, the other a standard kung fu flick. Jackie Chan’s restraint is interesting but underutilized.”

  5. knifefightintherain★★★☆☆
“A solid early Chan vehicle, even if it doesn’t play to his strengths. The serious tone makes it an oddity in his filmography, but not without value.”

Meta Description:
Jackie Chan steps into a legacy of resistance in Chinese Connection 2 (1977), a martial arts sequel that pits national pride against oppression with early glimpses of the star’s rising prowess.
