Lorenzo – ★★★☆☆
“Demon Strike is a decent Martial Arts film with Hwang Jang-Lee, Leung Kar-yan, and Jason Pai Piao. There are some evil wizard, ninjas, spiritual warriors, and regular folks trying to make sense of what’s happening. Unfortunately, things don’t go as crazy as it sounds and the film is grounded to hand-to-hand combat for most of the runtime. The fight choreography is tight with some good camera work. It does delve a bit into the magical Martial Arts elements, which may be a good or bad thing, which it was prevalent at the time of its release.” -

“I think Letterboxd might be wrong on the date for this one, as I believe it’s from 1984… Either way though, this is a batshit brilliant piece of no-budget kung fu mayhem clearly from after the ‘boom’ period had died. There’s some great stars in this – ‘Beardy’ Leung Kar-Yan, ‘Silver Fox’ Hwang Jang-Lee and doesn’t-have-a-cool-nickname-but-is-badass-anyway Jason Pai Piao – and they’re giving it their all even if the paycheck was probably minimal.” -

“Not one but TWO scenes of a wizard shooting lasers at a woman’s vagina to power up.” -

“Time spent on bumbling comedy and long speeches fails to wreck this fun, magic fu feature that has hero Leung Kar-yan hunting down evil sex-hex killer/wizard Jang Lee Hwang (who supercharges himself with female blood). Some fine styles, stabby weapons and a great finale.” -

“SPECTACLE THEATER FIST FRIGHT MARATHON (5/6) leanest, meanest, deepest, grimiest cut of the day. another one that i wish existed in a moderately presentable form but is worth showing nonetheless. home stretch, folks. bao count: 11 pork, 10 veg.”
