“A couple camping in the woods (where they were warned not to, of course) encounters a backwoods family which includes a son that’s a murderous geek. ‘What is a geek?’, you ask. It’s a circus performer that bites the heads off of chickens. For some reason the movie saves the definition of geek until the end, showing it on screen before the credits roll. It seems like it would have made more sense to include that at the beginning. This being a horror movie, obviously this geek also bites humans. Prior to watching, I didn’t realize that the alternate title for Backwoods was Geek nor did I expect to be watching another geek focused movie so soon after seeing Luther…” - Saint_Hooligan – ★★
“The body count sucked, I didn’t really like any of the characters, some scenes were way too dark, there was a serious lack of blood and guts, and the surprise at the end was cheesy, stupid, and just ridiculous. By the time things start rolling it’s already an hour in and I had lost interest. It was pretty slow paced and had too many filler scenes. It’s worth a watch, but it’s probably not one that needs to be watched a second time.” - Wiccaburr – ★
“Backwoods aka Geek was a horror thriller that got lost along the way into the woods. This movie had some potential with its trope of being ‘killer hillbilly/redneck horror’. Sadly though it couldn’t pull it off as much as it wanted to. This said, Jack O’Hara as William, the Geek was a solid choice in the role. Sadly that was the only character I could honestly give a damn for. The story wasn’t really a strong one to enjoy as it just came down to people being jerks and misunderstanding others. There was no horror or thrills worth checking this out until the approaching finale of this movie. By that time, I was honestly rooting for William. Overall this was a poor watch as Backwoods can go ahead and stay undiscovered.”
