Reviews from Letterboxd:
- FireBreathing – ★★★☆☆
“All of Japan’s children scrape for donations to feed Daigoro while taxpayers whine about it. Even in 1972, those bumper stickers about how the military should be the ones holding a bake sale were on the nose. I really appreciate this movie’s intelligent and honest take on how the government deals with a big orphaned beast. They put together a committee, they put together a budget, they put together a giant toilet. It’s a very sweet movie, and I love Daigoro’s design. He’s a big, soft, sad boy who just wants to eat and sleep and poop. I can relate.”
- Jeremy Urquhart – ★★★☆☆
“Another weird monster movie for the list… literally! I’m going to be writing about the most obscure ones I can find tomorrow. Daigoro vs. Goliath is Tsuburaya’s 10th anniversary film. Intended originally to be a Godzilla film, for unknown reasons the film was never done in this fashion. However, Toho still distributed the film and Eiji Tsuburaya’s protégé at Toho, Teruyoshi Nakano (or as he was credited at this time, Shokei Nakano) was retained as special effects director.”
- Carlo V – ★★★☆☆
“It’s like that old saying: ‘Does Daigoro shit in the woods?’ The answer is no, he does not, he has a gigantic portapotty.”
