“This is totally Cannon’s take on Romancing the Stone. Used to always see this one pop up on basic cable but never pulled the trigger. Unfortunately, at least it sucks in a harmless, likable way, if you can overlook the low key ‘80s undercurrent of mild racism. I will say, you rarely get a Chuck Norris this goofy and genial, and he has a good buddy dynamic with the more uptight, cranky Lou Gossett Jr. And along the way you get fun bit parts for stalwarts like Will Sampson, John Rhys-Davies, Sonny Landham, and Ian Abercrombie (Mr. Pitt). Kind of a perfect laundry movie, I must say. And of all the things, I never expected to see a character idly reading a copy of New Universe’s Psi-Force, not even popular at the time.”

“More than anything else, it truly is the set decoration and design during the climactic sequence that singlehandedly makes this film a must-see disasterpiece genre gem. While I find the showdown to be somewhat anticlimactic and lackluster, the film is thankfully saved by a feel-good happily-ever-after finale I can actually fully get behind. “A moment… frozen in time.” Ultimately, Firewalker is pure entertainment and ingloriously trashy filmmaking coming straight outta one of this best production companies to ever invade and despoil our minds. This film, in essence, is very dumb yet very fun and surprisingly well constructed. Yet another easily enjoyable J. Lee Thompson film to add to the stack, Firewalker is almost as exactly good-bad as the infamous Congo… and that’s more than good-bad enough for me!”

““Splendid! A moment frozen in time. It occurred to me that to leave you gentlemen here in this wretched heat, with nothing to drink, would be a cruel and merciless act. In three hours, your flesh will begin to blister. Two hours later, your tongues will swell. And all that time, you will be holding the liquid of life in your very own hand.” “And you’ll still be bald.” The Chuck Norris Temple of Doom buddie film that nobody asked for. Nobody asked for it, yet I’m asking for more comedic Norris films. Norris’ comedy is just completely awkward, so awkward, it’s hilarious. Firewalker clearly has no ounce of originality, but you can’t hate a Cannon film…. alright you can, but this film isn’t as bad as the 0% Rotten Tomatoes score says.”

“Gossett and Chuck Norris are a likable enough team as a pair of soldiers of fortune-along with FLASH GORDON’s Melody Anderson-on a quest to find an Aztec gold mine…if they don’t kill each other first! But while FIREWALKER goes down easy enough, it’s too sluggishly-paced and too derivative of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, ROMANCING THE STONE, and even Cannon’s own KING SOLOMON’S MINES from a year earlier.”

“This is the best Chuck Norris movie I’ve seen so far. I first saw it when I was around 9, owned it on VHS as a kid, and recently watched it again as an adult. Despite what others are saying, I find Chuck to actually be pretty funny, I find the chemistry between him and Lou Gossett Jr. entertaining, and there are plenty of one-liners that have stood the test of time for me.”
