Reviews from Letterboxd:

  1. Chris Parker – ★★★☆☆
“Frankenstein Conquers the World, or the better-titled Frankenstein vs. Baragon, is a surprisingly deep film that’s equal parts frustrating for how accurate its depictions are of both people’s reactions to homelessness and over-the-top in how they demonize Frankenstein. Was not expecting this to start with the allied invasion of WWII, but I guess since Godzilla was a result of the evils of America’s war efforts, why not examine the flip side at some point? Not like that hasn’t already been done to hell and back, but at least Toho got to take a whack at it. Wild that it was Frankenstein!”
  2. Sam Noland – ★★★☆☆
“One of the stranger installments of this marathon, Frankenstein Conquers the World (otherwise known as Frankenstein vs. Baragon or Frankenstein vs. the Giant Devilfish) posits that Mary Shelley’s classic novel was based on true events, and that the creature’s heart has continued living to this day. In a striking, dialogue-free prologue set during WWII, we see the heart get stolen from a German lab and taken to Hiroshima, only to be caught in the blast of the 1945 Atomic Bomb.”
  3. Luke Williams – ★★★★☆
“Frankenstein vs Baragon, or Frankenstein Conquers the World as I first knew it, is a delightfully strange movie. In my opinion, it is also one of Ishirō Honda’s most underrated movies. This film is about as far away from a traditional retelling of the classic Frankenstein story as you can get. Frankenstein is my personal favorite of the classic Universal Monsters.”
