Reviews from Letterboxd:
- The Horror of Marna Larsen – ★★★★★
“Not really a lot of Frankensteining or Frankenstein monstering but there are cleavage vampires, satanic rituals, and groovy werewolf transformation scenes so this is a 100% win.”
- Naughty aka Juli Norwood – ★★☆☆☆
“Considering Frankenstein was the clear headliner of this creature feature one would expect to not only see Frankenstein but witness his bloody terror! I mean come on you don’t need Sherlock Holmes the champion of deduction for this is a no brainer.. right? I hate to be the bearer of bad news.. This film had absolutely nothing to do with Frankenstein whatsoever! Apparently the distributor needed another Frankenstein flick! No problemo we’ll slap Frankenstein’s name in the title it’s a done deal! In lieu of Frankenstein we got a pair of werewolves and a pair of vampires! You’d rightfully expect the monstrous carnage…”
- Matt Winfield – ★★★★☆
“Not a Frankenstein monster to be seen despite what that shitty American title would lead you to believe, but there’s enough bloody terror goin’ down to sate my appetite! Vicious werewolf battles! Innocent flesh shredded in the night! Sadistic vampire lovers! Non-stop howling in the dark depths of the dungeons below Wolf(en)stein Manor! Frankenstein… who needs him!? Notably, this was also Paul Naschy’s first portrayal as Waldemar Daninsky, and it’s interesting seeing his whole origin story play out before he became such a tortured beast. It’s a quaint little gothic tale that doesn’t stray too far from the usual werewolf lore, though the arrival of the vampire duo mixes things up nicely in the last act. The setting is fantastic, the lighting is colorful and super moody, and the whole movie just has those cozy classic horror vibes that lull my senses into a heightened state of bliss. Love it!”
