ChamBliss – ★★★☆☆
“The only thing you’ve ever cared about was nugs, chillin and grindage. Encino Man was made for 90s kids, and that’s where all of its charm lies. Most of that charm comes down to the presence of Pauly Shore as Stony; this is Shore at his most catchphrase-infused, and while I’m not a fan of the Weasel, this is the best example of his essence condensed to a single movie character. He grates on the nerves, but this is a persona that was created for kids who loved the Ninja Tuetles, and I still find him a fascinating way to see what American culture was like in the 90s. Other than Shore. Brendan Fraser is charming as the dudetastic Neanderthal, but Sean Astin is limp and lame as the lead, a pathetic character that never earns our adoration. This is a pretty fun time waster, charming and harmless.” -

“What a weird movie. Mostly embarrassing and cringe tbh. I kept asking myself why I was watching this. Couple of funny jokes, the end part is the best part of the movie. Stoney is the best character in the whole thing, though I will applaud Brendan for being able to put 110% into a caveman character. The type of movie you watch once, quote once in your life and forgot you watched it but still had a good time (mostly, cause you kept being cringed out of the movie)” -

“A classic stoner comedy without the actual drug use. High-concept doofus comedy, would that be a better label? It means the characters and the world they inhabit don’t have to abide by strict reality, and no one needs an explanation for why not. They can be brainless one minute, totally normal protagonists the next. Inexplicable things can happen and let’s just go with it. Friendship, good times, and music montages are what matter. … Pauly Shore’s cult of personality got promoted from MTV to the big screen here … He and his stupid, intentionally annoying made-up language of nicknames and short-hand SoCal style are actually fairly likable here, mercifully doled out in portions between other types of humor instead of dominating the whole show.” -

“Solid middle of the road comedy, that Brendan Fraser guy is pretty good huh” -
