Milon’s Secret Castle, known in Japan as Meikyū Kumikyoku: Milon no Daibōken (迷宮組曲 ミロンの大冒険, “The Maze Suite: Milon’s Great Adventure”), is a 1986 action-adventure game developed and published by Hudson Soft for the NES. A portable version later arrived on the Game Boy in 1993.
The story follows Milon, a young boy born in Hudson Land—a world where communication is expressed through musical tones. Struggling with amusia (tone deafness), Milon sets out to explore the land and discover a way to connect with others. His journey begins when he visits Queen Eliza at Castle Garland, only to find it overtaken by the evil wizard Maharito and his demonic army. Maharito has stolen the people’s musical instruments and spread terror across Hudson Land. Determined to restore harmony, Milon ventures into the castle to battle the invaders, rescue the queen, and reclaim the instruments.
Players must defeat seven powerful enemies, including Maharito himself, to complete the game. The six other major bosses—collectively known as the “Demon Beasts” (魔獣)—include Homa, Doma, Blue Doma, Red Homa, Red Balkarma, and Kama. Each foe guards a crystal that, once claimed, enhances Milon’s abilities and brings him one step closer to liberating Castle Garland.
