Plot Synopsis
In 2047 an alien life-form codenamed FOS devastates Earth’s major cities in a single strike. Survivors rally and construct a planetary shield called the Diffuser to hold back future incursions. Jump to 2053: with the shield still active, a desperate counterattack is launched. Soldier Taishi Akejima carries a personal vendetta—his father died in the initial assault—and sees the mission as his chance at vengeance. The offensive, however, demands the removal of the planet’s most crucial defensive mechanism, exposing humanity to unprecedented vulnerability once more.

   “Planzet has so many Negadon: The Monster from Mars Easter eggs that I can’t fathom why it wasn’t just billed as a sequel. Sadly, it’s a poor follow-up, replacing that film’s Showa ambition with a languid mecha-versus-aliens tale. Tiffany Grant’s in the dub and makes the most out of one of the many underwritten characters.”

   “Stunning graphic animation and an interesting 20 minute story. Unfortunately that 20 minute story is stretched into a 53 minute film, becoming so impossibly slow moving that you’ll look for a way to increase playback speed. I’d recommend at least 2X.”
