Reviews from Letterboxd:

  1. AHackFraud – ★★★
“The last film Raj Kapoor completed before his death, and having watched it last night, I have now seen every film he ever directed. It’s far from Kapoor’s most personal film, but it exudes the full force of his exemplary artistry and emotional intimacy in every flourish and vista.”

  2. sydney – ★★★★
“An epic chaos of metaphors about gender roles, the environment, religion, politics, and capitalism—no subtlety in sight, flying out in every direction.”

  3. Cameron Wayne Johnson – ★★★½
“A Calcutta college student comes to the Ganga river to collect holy water for his disabled mother, only to find love in his guide.”

  4. irmavep – ★★★½
“This movie is dense with stories and rich with symbolism, of which I have only the barest knowledge, so my perspective on it is necessarily limited.”

  5. sau – ★★★★
“Raj Kapoor’s swan song. There’s a lot more to this movie than the exploitative scenes that have led the talk since its release. One of the best of the 80s, which was really a terrible decade for Bollywood.”
