Ray – ★★
“Weird Spanish comic book giallo that sadly doesn’t live up to its potential. It’s got all the requisite funky fashion, inventive murder set pieces, and thoroughly reprehensible characters, but it spends most of its time introducing suspects instead of thickening the plot. Genre fans will see the big reveal coming a mile away, and Sexy Cat doesn’t really have much else going on. Unfortunately forgettable.”
Lou (rhymes with wow!) – ★★★½
“When you crossbreed the Italian giallo cat with the American comic book cat, you get this Spanish Sexy Cat. Being a fan of gialli, it was pretty obvious to me who the killer was. You start to pick up certain phrases in the dialogue that steer you in the right direction. Certainly in this movie, where there is so much emphasis put on ambiguity. A more experienced director could have handled the reveal with more subtlety, but this is still a fun take on the murder mystery that any genre fan should check out.”
Nathaniel Thompson – ★★★
“Pulpy, colorful murder mystery with a tongue-in-cheek attitude as someone dressed up as the comic book character Sexy Cat goes on a killing spree. Very giallo-flavored at times, with lots of meandering chitchat and characters saying ‘Sexy Cat’ at least a dozen times per scene. Would make a fun double feature with Baba Yaga and could use a nice remastered Blu-ray someday.”
Holger Haase – ★★★★
“What’s that? A comic book movie that I can actually approve of? A little-known but wonderfully bonkers Spanish pop art thriller about a series of murders inspired by the plots of a popular (unfortunately fictitious) comic book about a sexy female killer. Groovy! The identity of the killer came as absolutely zero surprise to me. I had the person sussed out the moment they first appeared on screen. That is a) what years of watching Eurotrash does to you and b) beside the point and in no way diminishes the fun to be had with this production.”
Paul Petroskey – ★★½
“#5 – Is this the FIRST horror film about a comic book? Not a comic adaptation, but actually about a (fictitious) comic book? That’s kind of crazy… it seems like this plot could be used in a present-day film. Maybe it already has. The movie is okay, but it’s not done that well.”
