Valis Fantastic Soldier Mugen Senshi (1987) | Famicom | USED
$9.99
Mugen Senshi Valis for the Famicom is a 1987 reinterpretation of the original Valis: The Fantasm Soldier—first released on Japanese computers like the MSX and PC-88. Published by Tokuma Shoten, this version follows high-schooler Yūko Asou, who wields the mystical Valis sword to protect Earth, the spirit world, and the dream realm.
Unlike its linear predecessors, the Famicom release introduces maze-like regions with intersecting paths and shifting orientations. Navigation depends heavily on locating the map, as direction changes often occur without visual cues, making exploration challenging. Item discovery is similarly difficult, emphasizing careful charting.
This was the series’ first remake, preceding later adaptations for the Sega Genesis and PC-Engine CD. The Genesis version returned to straightforward action gameplay, while the PC-Engine CD edition became the most acclaimed iteration, helping solidify Valis as a cult classic with multiple sequels.
