Reviews from Letterboxd:
-
Lou (rhymes with wow!) – ★★★½
“I grew up in a cave, so I don’t know my name, [but] people think I am as agile as a monkey, so they call me Flying Monkey. There’s nothing like putting on some Shaw Brothers brainmelt first thing on a Saturday morning. Demon of the Lute must be in the running for the most bonkers kids movie ever made? And kids movies are pretty crazy to begin with, so that’s really saying something. Try my fiery balls.” -
Gregor Kreyca – ★★★
“A childish but charming and mostly entertaining little comic book style Wuxia movie. There are a lot of colorful characters here and the kid (Ding Dong) is cute and fun to watch. I don’t even know how to explain it in a way that would do it justice. Essentially, it’s about an evil demon who has a murderous six-stringed lute and a group of good guys who are trying to find the flaming bow and arrow weapon that’s the only thing that can defeat him. But that misses so much of its flavour. Take, for example, the inclusion of Red Haired Evil, a villain who can grow a backcombed fiery-red punk hairstyle at will.” -
Florian Poupelin – ★★★
“Disco Lute.” -
Jack – ★★★★
“This martial arts film is dedicated to children. This isn’t as good of a killer lute movie as Deadful Melody, but this is a good ‘people flying around on wires with sparkly weapons’ movie.” -
moonbat – ★★★½
“I love eagle man.”
