Justin Decloux – ★★★★☆
“HELLZ WINDSTAFF is the best title. A brutal martial arts barn burner that feels like it’s 85% action scenes – choreographed at full intensity by two Yuen Brothers and Cory Yuen (unrelated). Mang Hoi was always a Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung utility player, so it’s nice to see him (and his very large head) starring in a movie. Hwang Jang-lee does what he does best: Pull off crazy moves while rocking a sick mustache.” -
Fu for Thought – ★★★★★
“A fight filled classic. You rarely find a film as action packed as this one and with PERFECT choreography, you’re in for a treat. You do have to sit through some typical silly humor but isn’t that the case with all kung fu films? Once it passes, it’s wall to wall action.” -
Jack – ★★★★☆
“Everything I love about kung fu cinema rolled into one underseen classic. A real grassroots, backyard brawl sort of production with meticulously choreographed sequences that could rival even the best of early Jackie.” -
Zero Ena
Carlo V – ★★★★★
“The kind of Jackiesploitation that rises above even most Jackie movies from this period. I’m a little shocked by just how good this was, but I forgot Liu Chun-ku directed it and then I check HKDMB and of course there is huge Yuen-clan involvement in the choreo department. If you’ve seen your fair share of Drunken Master-type movies you will have seen this exact movie before, but you’d be hard pressed to find one that is done so confidently. Just a string of perfectly engineered action beats broken up by simple but effective escalation of conflict. By the time our Jackies are to face Hwang Jang-lee’s wind staff I had the rare sensation that anything COULD actually happen. Hot take? Better than og Drunken Master!”
