Reviews from Letterboxd:
- John Charles – ★★★☆☆
“Wong Jing’s take down of Jackie Chan/knockoff of DIE HARD is as uneven as you’d expect. The humor alternates between inspired and puerile, while Corey Yuen’s action choreography is sometimes exciting but occasionally rather slapdash. The production values are basic at best and laughably shoddy at worst (those miniatures and dummies!). All that said, HIGH RISK remains a pretty sure bet for fans of this era of HK filmmaking.” - tytayl0r – ★★★★★
“Man this movie is a banger. It’s honestly so ridiculous, and the English dub is terrible, but it’s honestly endearing. Jacky Cheung is by far my favourite part of the whole movie; he is such a lovable idiot and I honestly love him here.” - Sean Gilman – ★★★★☆
“The first half of the 1990s were a golden age for variations on John McTiernan’s 1988 hit Die Hard. We had Die Hard on a bus (Speed), Die Hard on a plane (Passenger 57), Die Hard on a boat (Under Siege), and more. But only Wong Jing was bold enough to give us what we really needed: Die Hard as a vicious parody of the Hong Kong film industry.”
