Reviews from Letterboxd:
- The_Void – ★★★★☆
“Night Train is the first film I’ve seen from highly rated Polish director Jerzy Kawalerowicz and it’s a highly impressive film too! The film takes on a Hitchcockian style, although Kawalerowicz’ directorial style is more sombre than Hitchcock’s and the film straddles the line between thriller/mystery and drama excellently.”
- Justin Aylward – ★★★★☆
“Night Train is a stylish socio-dramatic mystery, by Jerzy Kawalerowicz, starring Leon Niemczyk and Lucyna Winnicka as two melancholy passengers on a disrupted journey through the Polish countryside, that is a graceful presentation of male/female relationships and the post-war hierarchy of establishments, a smooth and delightful directorial style does not come in service of a clear narrative, but rather a more abstract and ambiguous one.”
- sakana1 – ★★★☆☆
“I wish I could see Night Train the way Khandros does, because reading his piece is quite thrilling in the depth it finds in the film. But it’s almost impossible for me to look past the seemingly lazy, superficial characterization of women that anchor the film, and the archaic morality that sometimes hovers around them.”
